The South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences offers a wide spectrum of studies with modern, trend-setting issues and subjects. It is no "mass production" university. Studying here is application-oriented, group sizes are manageable and teaching takes place in a face-to-face situation. In the 2009/2010 winter term 7884 students are enrolled.

The South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences holds close contacts to the industry, agriculture and trade. It is actively involved in working on the solutions to current problems of the region and thus gains experience for application-oriented studying. Companies can find expert advice for innovation and technology here, and joined projects have often led to developing product- and process-innovations. With many diploma theses being written in co-operation with companies, research and teaching are successfully linked. Several research institutes have been founded and so the university has broken new grounds in the co-operation with local industry.
